(19/05/2006) Day Eight: Gyantse, Tibet

Today was a loooong day of driving from Lhasa to Gyantse via one of Tibet’s holiest lakes – Yamdrok-Tso (elevation 4488m). It was quite a beautiful shade of turquoise.
The whole drive was very scenic but very dusty and the whole off road in the Tibetan mountains experience didn’t seem as fun when you’re breathing only dust.
We then arrived in Gyantse after seven plus hours of driving & stopping at small temples.
Once at Gyantse we went to the Pelkor Chode monastary which was huge and housed over 50 plus stray dogs (taken care of by the monks).
Beautiful monastary, just so tired. Ate (wrong meal!) and washed & bed.
Totally feeling the elevation today.
